You are cordially invited to the opening of the first exhibition for 2020 with GFELLER + HELLSGÅRD.
The artist duo GFELLER + HELLSGÅRD rethinks, deconstructs, reconstructs and stretches the limits of the screen-printing process through their diverse experimentations. Working incessantly across a wide range of media including artist’s books, monoprints, installations and paintings, their fresh combination of punk minimalism, pop abstraction, handcraft hybrid experiments and subtle Duchampian humour, Gfeller + Hellsgård are a very unique voice in the contemporary art scene.
“We have been exploring screen-printing for over 20 years. From experimental zines, we slowly shifted to unique artist’s books, monotypes and paintings, but we always felt there was more to be done. We wanted to go to the essence of the process, push the boundaries of the medium, be radical. We were looking for a way to transcend the rigidity of the technique. So we had to rethink and simplify, to finally get the form and content in adequacy. That’s how we started doing monumental minimal printing.”
*The title of the exhibition series is related to the idea that a former gallery space will act as a temporary art space,
testing its own boundaries and approaching, in a playful way, the arguable assumption that a project space will never be a perfect white cube.
