“Tropical Islands” — a resort built inside a massive hangar in the former GDR in Brandenburg — and other spaces of domesticated nature are the basis of the exhibition.
Presented by the class “Kunst im zeitgenössischen Kontext“ (KizK) at the Kunsthochschule Kassel led by Guest-Professor Pauline Curnier Jardin, the works are based on an expedition taken to the resort and grew out of a direct engagement with the topics of the replication of colonial structures and various ethical issues, including ecological wastefulness, the eroticization of the exotic, and the tropical as colonial euphemism.
