MAGICAL RAGE is a series of photographic still lifes accompanied by an autofictional text. The German artist Clara Bahlsen employs a process analogous to psychoanalytic sublimation, transforming intense emotional states — particularly anger and its repression — into culturally legible forms. The precisely constructed still lifes present everyday objects that weave a network of artistic, biographical, and cultural references. The accompanying textual fragments recount family dynamics and memories. Both mediums use implication and omission, portraying anger as a complex and ambivalent phenomenon. Set against a contemporary climate of polarization and emotional volatility, the work creates a field of tension that reflects the intricate layers of inner conflict. Ultimately, it translates this raw and contradictory emotional state into an enigmatic visual language.
FR MAGICAL RAGE est une série de natures mortes photographiques accompagnée d’un texte autofictionnel. L’artiste allemande Clara Bahlsen utilise un processus analogue à la sublimation psychanalytique, transformant des états affectifs intenses — en particulier la colère et sa répression — en formes culturellement lisibles. Les natures mortes, précisément construites, présentent des objets du quotidien qui tissent un réseau de références artistiques, biographiques et culturelles. Les fragments textuels qui les accompagnent racontent des dynamiques familiales et des souvenirs. Les deux médiums utilisent l’implication et l’omission, présentant la colère comme un phénomène complexe et ambivalent. S’inscrivant dans un climat contemporain de polarisation et de volatilité émotionnelle, l’œuvre crée un champ de tension qui rend compte des couches complexes du conflit intérieur. Elle traduit finalement cet état émotionnel brut et contradictoire en un langage visuel énigmatique.
NL MAGICAL RAGE is een serie fotografische stillevens, vergezeld van een autofictionele tekst. De Duitse kunstenares Clara Bahlsen gebruikt een proces dat vergelijkbaar is met psychoanalytische sublimatie, waarbij intense emotionele toestanden — in het bijzonder woede en de onderdrukking ervan — worden omgezet in cultureel leesbare vormen. De zorgvuldig geconstrueerde stillevens tonen alledaagse objecten die een netwerk van artistieke, biografische en culturele verwijzingen weven. De begeleidende tekstfragmenten vertellen over familieomstandigheden en herinneringen. Beide media maken gebruik van implicatie en weglating, en presenteren woede als een complex en ambivalent fenomeen. In een hedendaags klimaat van polarisatie en emotionele volatiliteit creëert het werk een spanningsveld dat de complexe lagen van innerlijk conflict weerspiegelt. Uiteindelijk vertaalt het deze rauwe en tegenstrijdige emotionele toestand in een raadselachtige visuele taal.
