Ulrich Vogl

In Ulrich Vogl’s series The Land Beyond the Seaa mono-chrome white map stands out from the white wall. The wall en passant turns into the sea, the thrown-on plaster into a detailed map (Valeria Schulte-Fischedick).

The version Australia was especially produced for the the show Ornament und Verbrechen (Ornament and Crime), remembering the 162.000 prisoners that were transported by the British to what is now known as Australia between the years 1787 and 1868, thus becoming the first colonies in the British Empire founded solely to house convicts.
