“Contemporary Urban Archaeology” is a series started during the 2020 lockdown. The artist creates plaster copies of objects found in the city, stored in plastic boxes on aluminum shelves. Each box notes the location and date of discovery. After molding, the originals are returned to their find spots.
This series serves as a modern archaeological documentation and a memorial for these lost objects, each telling its own story. The process of molding and returning the originals acts as a ritual, extracting their “aura” or memory. The uniformity of the materials used (plaster, plastic, aluminum) presents the objects in an orderly and sober manner, highlighting their existence at a specific time and place.
