The artwork juxtaposes uranium ore and lead, two stages of the same material, separated by several million years. Likewise, the artwork contrasts their respective colours, yellow and grey, which slowly fades into black over time. The work expands the concept of the monochrome by relating it to the action of time.
By enlarging the painters’ colour palette, from the luminous yellow pigment to the invisible light of radio-luminescence, the artwork enhances the visible by the intangible. The time scale, which is beyond human reach and perception, further relates the conceivable to the unthinkable, which is an essential part of the ontology of this unique form of painting, of our reality.
