In From Up Close, Juliette Kovàcs’s work unfolds at the intersection of two dimensions: the real and the digital — between lived experience and the memory of images. She gathers and assembles fragments of landscapes that belong to everyone, drawn from life, from screens, and from the history of painting. Chosen for their popular, accessible quality, these images coexist without hierarchy: a video game backdrop can echo a classical landscape, sharing the same visual language.
In her paintings, digital and physical fragments meet and merge in layered compositions, creating new territories where reality and fiction coexist. Kovàcs stages a dialogue between two languages — that of collective imagery and that of personal experience. Filtered through memory, these images lose their origin and fuse into a single, hybrid sensation.
Her paintings become spaces of reconciliation, where the virtual and the tangible vibrate on the same plane. What was once distant feels close again; the universal becomes intimate, and the intimate turns universal.
