For our second participation at Art Düsseldorf, we are focusing in particular on the work of JANINE EGGERT, who was selected by curator Julia Meyer-Brehm for the SCULPTURE SPOT section at BOOTH S04.

JANINE EGGERT draws upon a wide range of industrial materials and craft techniques. In her artistic practice, she analyzes the designed and man-made world, exploring the tension between pure functionality and the aesthetic meaning and quality of form. By exposing the ornamental qualities of engineered objects, Eggert develops alternative concepts that challenge established functions, economic requirements and power structures.

Another focus is on the objects and sculptures of BEN GREBER. The artist examines the progressive de-objectification driven by technological and social developments, as well as its impact on our perception of reality. His works, often crafted from materials like cardboard and epoxy resin, capture the essence of everyday objects while transcending their original forms to become autonomous artworks. Greber makes the invisibility of social processes visible, using art to document this defining characteristic of our time.

The paintings of FRANZISKA REINBOTHE defies tradition by merging painting with sculptural techniques. Through processes such as stretching, folding, breaking, cutting, and sewing, Reinbothe embraces destruction as a catalyst for creation. Her work is driven by curiosity and impulsiveness, with coincidences and accidents playing an integral role in her artistic process. Reinbothe deconstructs and reassembles the canvas, unveiling its hidden structures and transforming its materiality.

Similarly, TOM FRÜCHTL questions the limits of painting and its materiality, ultimately challenging and engaging our perception with a unique blend of creativity and conceptual depth. Exploring the boundaries between the everyday and the artistic, constantly pushing the limits of his medium, Früchtl’s works invites viewers to see the familiar in unexpected ways.
